STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES First Choice Varsity College is a voice in the Department of Education to interact on behalf of its students . It assists students by liaising with the Department of Education on various individual problems students may encounter .Counseling and support (e.g. extra lessons for low learners) , sports services, students resources, letters of recommendation, testimonial, for opening bank or shop accounts, Assisting Bursary students. Solving accommodation and learning problems students are able to contact lectures during free periods, field trips, tours, lecture back up notes, video and TV presentation of learning.
ACCOMMODATION International / foreign students and students who comes from outside Durban areas will be accommodated in single or double rooms – rates differ in small cottages, flats, holiday houses, huts, nests etc. Upper class private to sharing facilities available with or without meals. NB. 3 week notice in advance required for accommodation and a Deposit of R5000 – must be secured. Proof of payment in the form of a deposit slip is required. TEXT BOOKS It is not possible for any student to successfully pass their examinations without the help of Text books. If you are really serious about your studies and want to succeed with ease in your examinations you need to obtain all your text books immediately after the registration process. The front office at student services will give you all the assistance you need like names and authors etc. This also applies to stationery. If you are lucky enough to register early you may be surprised with some FREE STATIONERY. You are encouraged to get them before they are sold out. Success comes from learning, understanding and producing the best results. Having your own text books helps you to get better grades.
STATIONERY REQUIRED This is only a guide for a starter pack. 4 x 2 quire hard cover A4 size books 2 files, Pens, Ruler, Rubber, Pencil of your choice 4 faint margin / ruled lined exercise for tests 4 faint margin / ruled lines exercise books for assignments 2 examination writing pads for thumb notes during lectures 2 quire hardcover note book to be use as a journal to record hours completed in in-service training. For financial information systems / accountancy and other areas of study the lecturer will hand a list of requirements.
ACADEMIC ADVISING Good planning is a key ingredient for academic success. In order to promote good planning, each student is assigned a Faculty Advisor. Students work closely with Faculty Advisors to develop a schedule of classes and activities, which will best help in the achievement of academic goals. Faculty Advisors also assist students in choosing a major area of study and fulfilling the college’s graduation requirements. Advisors are assigned by the CEO or center manager on the basis of the student’s academic and professional interests. The faculty advisor is the course lecturer and students assist faculty advisor to plan and work together.
JOB PLANNING First Choice Varsity College provides Career and life planning services to students. The following services are provided: General testing, occupational and vocational information and guidance. Students are assisted in areas of C.V. writing, employability skills, study skills .
THE STUDENTS ACTIVITY BOARD Operated by student workers under the careful supervision of the Director of student Activities. This Board plans a student activities calendar each semester.
CLASS ATTENDANCE Students and faculty must realize that one of the most vital aspects of a college experience is attendance and punctuality in the classroom and the value of this experience cannot be exclusively measured by testing procedures alone. Each instructor must devise his / her own attendance policy, have it approved by the center manager and explain it to the students on the first day of class. Staying away from classes is not the right thing to do if you want to succeed and lead . |
